International Research Conference 2025

Science and Sustainability in ECE; Dialogues on dilemmas, participation and care

Copenhagen, Denmark, November 6-7, 2025

The NAVADA research Team is pleased to welcome you to the international conference Science and Sustainability in ECE; Dialogues on dilemmas, participation and care which is being held in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 6th and 7th 2025.

The conference aims at bringing forth and examine possibilities and challenges when trying to develop and bridge science and sustainability in early childhood education. The conference theme is related to the NAVADA project and its focus on exploring and developing the ways in which children’s engagements in their surrounding world are responded to through science, mathematics, nature and sustainability education approaches in Danish early childhood education. Research perspectives on dilemmas, participation and care has shown to be important for the NAVADA project to reflect on and consider in relation to science and sustainability and we invite you to paticipate in dialogues and knowledge creation around these perspectives.

As keynote speakers, we present Professor Marilyn Fleer (Monash University, Australia), Professor Sean Blekinsop (Simon Fraser University, Canada) and Professor Marianne Presthus Heggen (Western Norway University of Applied Science, Norway).

The conference seeks to bring together approximately 100 early childhood researchers participating in three main streams. Each stream will feature three to five introductions by invited speakers and by speakers from NAVADA as well as discussions, debate and open sessions. Read more about the three streams below and see the preliminary conference programme here.
